I graduated with bachelor’s degree in physical therapy, started my career in sales for a pharmaceutical company but failed and found out early that I am not cut out yet for sales. I went into healthcare as a homecare/private nurse for a chief executive who had to undergo a major surgery. My first exposure into corporate was when my patient, this chief executive, got medically cleared to get back to work. I doubled as his personal assistant while he was working in the office. This is the time when I began to appreciate the logistics and coordination in a business setting, and this is when I realized that I really excel at coordination, collaboration, and structure. I remember acting as an academic assistant to my professor back in my college days; seeing my professor being relieved of a few of his major tasks brought me a sense of purpose. I then began my career in the life insurance industry of the Middle East market from 2008. I was fortunate in being able to pursue both educational and professional development at the same time as I am deeply motivated by continuous learning and improvement. Throughout my employment, I took part in several digitization projects as well as projects driving employee engagement, diversity, and inclusion. These enriched me more as a person, helped me develop self-awareness, empathy, and compassion. Above all, it helped me and the organization reap the benefits of teamwork. I am currently taking a bold move in my career as I ponder on shifting from being a corporate employee for the past 24 years into either being a freelance/remote worker or joining Insurtech or fintech start ups. As I started looking for my next career opportunity, I learned that I want to continue contributing good to the financial industry without losing too much of myself.
